Each and every Wednesday, we present a fresh installment of “My Watch Story,” a video series starring HODINKEE readers and their most prized watches. The submissions continue to stream in, and we couldn’t be happier to share them with the watch community. Today, we have five new stories submitted by Johnny Dowell, Carlos Chapa, Andrea Jacob, Agus Asan, and Lim Cheng Siang.
Feeling inspired, or just discovering this project? Please scroll down to the bottom of the page to learn how to submit your own video. But first, we hope you enjoy this installment of My Watch Story.
Johnny Dowell And His Omega Speedmaster Schumacher
Johnny, aka “King Nerd,” is a designer and engraver from London. He bought this Omega Speedmaster Michael Schumacher from a dealer in Japan, and then made it his own – adding an engraving of Snoopy in one of Schumacher’s first Ferraris to the caseback, and another Snoopy engraving to the clasp. Eventually, he plans on giving it to his two boys.
Carlos Chapa And His Grand Seiko SBGA211
A native of Dallas, TX, Carlos is a former hospital corpsman in the Navy. After his service, he traveled extensively in Asia, where he became interested in Eastern medicine. He bought this Grand Seiko, his daily wear, after opening his third practice, and he says he really appreciates its understated elegance.
Andrea Jacob And Her NOMOS Tangente
Andrea, who lives in Adelaide, Australia, received this NOMOS Tangente with midnight blue dial as a recent birthday gift from her husband and children. Not only is it engraved with meaningful dates, but it also reminds her of a watch her grandfather wore when she was young – and the process of winding it takes her back to the times she spent with him.
Agus Asan And His Breitling Colt Chronograph
A native of Marbella, Spain, Agus bought this Breitling Chronograph on a trip to London. He’d been reading about and researching watches for years, and finally decided it was time to get his first “real” watch at six in the morning at Gatwick Airport – after getting permission from his wife.
Lim Cheng Siang And His Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic 1958
Lim, who lives in Malaysia, recorded this video on June 18, which happens to be his birthday. He appreciates the uniqueness and understated simplicity of this Geophysic 1958 – and says it symbolizes his journey into the world of horology. He plans on passing it on to his son – and hopes his son stumbles across this very video in the future. And happy birthday from the HODINKEE team, Lim!
Ready To Submit Your Own Watch Story? Here’s How It Works
1. Pick one watch that is very special to you, and get your camera phone ready.
2. Record a video telling us your most interesting or meaningful story about your watch. Let’s say 2-3 minutes is the sweet spot – if you go longer, that’s okay. (And please remember to introduce yourself: your name and where you are from.)
3. Get creative, keep it clean, and have fun!
4. Take some photos on the wrist and a few shots of the watch so that we can proudly display them on our site. Horizontal, please.
