This week, we’ve got two awesome guests, and we’re dedicating the entire show to my conversation with them. Last week, I had the pleasure of sitting down to chat with Spencer Bailey and Andrew Zuckerman, the co-founders of The Slowdown, a new kind of media company that describes itself as making “short-form content with a long view.” I’ve known these guys for quite a while (and even worked with Spencer back during our days at Surface Media) and have been a fan of what they’re doing since they launched in early 2019. From their newsletter to their podcasts Time Sensitive and At A Distance, everything they do digs below the surface and encourages you to marinate in big ideas rather than rush on to the next thing. As someone who’s very guilty of doomscrolling my way through the day, it’s a welcome change of pace.
Spencer and Andrew are two guys who are also deeply obsessed with time and how we experience it, and their thinking on the subject is really smart, in my opinion. We certainly dive deep into that topic in the episode, but we also talk about the ins and outs of a truly good interview, the idea of “un-collecting,” and, of course, why we’re all into watches. Most of our conversation is more on the philosophical side of things, but we do get into some nitty-gritty watch chat at the end, if that’s what you’re looking for. I always learn a lot when I talk to Spencer and Andrew, and today’s episode is no exception.
We hope you enjoy Episode 110 of HODINKEE Radio. Check out the show notes below, and let us know what you think in the comments.
