The Watch Packaging Of The Year Has Arrived

I’d wager that most of us have a box shelf somewhere in our homes: a sad, shadowy place where we squirrel away the bland grey cubes, mismatched paper sleeves, and anonymous wooden coffins that once housed our watches. And while collectors usually endeavor to keep these ancillary accessories (box and papers, bro!), isn’t it extra nice when the packaging not only matches the tone of the watch but is also fun all on its own? George Bamford thinks so.

Building on proven demand for Snoopy-themed watches from Timex and Omega, the irrepressible Bamford has created the Peanuts x Bamford London GMT, a collaboration between with Highsnobiety and Colette. It arrives in connection with a documentary called Colette Mon Amour, which commemorates the closing of the famed Parisian boutique, and is part of a collection of clothing and accessories launched alongside the documentary

Priced at £1,500 and delivered in a Colette blue recreation of Snoopy’s doghouse, the watch features a 40mm steel case with a black cordura strap and an internal rotating 24-hour bezel. The dial features a prominent image of Snoopy, whose four-toed paws form the hour and minute hands for the main time display. His ever-present bird-buddy Woodstock perches at the tip of the GMT hand. Both the dial and the caseback carry “Colette Mon Amour” text and, given the topic of the documentary, the caseback also reads, “As all the good things must come to an end – 1997-2017.”

Timekeeping is managed by the Sellita SW330-1 offering automatic winding, a date display at three, and an independent 24-hour hand for tracking GMT. That’s all nice. But some of us may want this one for the packaging alone.
