In what has become an annual tradition around here, for our final post of the year, we polled a selection of HODINKEE team members to find out which watches saw the most wrist time in 2020. Some you know well, and others you probably don’t; the HODINKEE team has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years, and we’re excited to share the watch-nerd insights of some of the lesser-known members of the team that keep this ship moving.
And because this was a year like none other, we did it a little differently this time around. In this year of video communication, it felt appropriate for you to see and hear our team members tell you firsthand about their most-worn watches of 2020. This includes editors, customer experience associates, designers, photographers, and more, and even a few of our colleagues at HODINKEE.jp.
Below, you can read about a small sample of the results; to see all 30, hit play on the video above.
We hope you enjoy, and please let us know which watch you wore the most in 2020 by dropping a comment or tagging us on Instagram (@hodinkee). Happy New Year!
Ian Cox, Designer: Grand Seiko SBGW231
“As a designer, I pay a lot of attention to the details, and there’s nothing that feels out of place on this watch. Everything is perfectly executed, and that is why this is the watch that I wore most this year.”
Shahed Khaddash, Video Editor: Swatch Skin Classic
“I have a rotation with one of my dive watches, but I found that on those long, cold winter days when I’m wearing too many layers, this is just more comfortable, and I barely feel it on my wrist.”
James Stacey, Senior Writer: Seiko SPB143 Prospex Diver
“It’s just the right size, I love the specification and the historical design language, and it just looks great on a NATO.”
Yu Sekiguchi, Editor-In-Chief, HODINKEE Japan: Cartier Santos
“I bought this watch to celebrate the launch of HODINKEE Japan last year. I love this combination – yellow gold and stainless steel. The MM size is so compatible that I don’t need to take it off while working at the desk.”
Danis Cespedes, Customer Experience Associate: Ladies’ Bulova
“This watch I wore the day that I actually got engaged in 2020 – and the crown actually fell off that day. So I’m hoping to have it fixed and maybe wear it the day I get married…”
