CronotempVs Collectors & Oris Create Ultra-Limited Spirit of Sixty-Five Diver

The Oris Diver Sixty-Five family has seen a number of special and limited editions since its resurrection in 2015, from Movember editions to Carl Brashear models (the latest of which we showed you right here). Their latest collaborative effort with the CronotempVs Collectors group is their most limited yet with just 65 examples slated for production, a reference to the year it was originally released. This collaboration applies a beautifully subtle design to the tried and true formula of the Sixty-Five, and we suspect the watch will frustrate more than a few would-be buyers at the small production run.

CronotempVs is a collective of watch enthusiasts and collectors based in Spain with chapters in cities around the world. You’ll remember the rather unique Habring Endurance we showed you last year from the same group. In working with Oris the group is recognizing the robust history represented within the brand’s original dive watch, and provides their interpretation of the design as it may have aged between then and now. They have aptly named it the Spirit of Sixty-Five.

The Spirit of Sixty-Five is not meant to be a re-issue, however. This is a modern take done, well, in the spirit of the original. The watch uses Oris’ 42mm Sixty-Five case, a departure from the 36mm of the original, but the rest is pretty spot on. The aluminum bezel insert is glossy black and frames an appropriately domed crystal. It’s the same Sixty-Five we know and love, save for the dial.

The dial here is grey-fume with a very subtle face from light to dark, creating a perfect backdrop for the desaturated green Super-LumiNova found in the hour markers and hands. The look is meant to mimic what an original dial might look like today, but it doesn’t read as fauxtina or pre-aging at all, it just looks like a well thought out pairing of colors. A lacquered red seconds hand brings a final accent to the scene, and if we had spoken nothing of the original or its heritage there’d still be a lot to appreciate with this colorway.

You can learn more about this watch from CronotempVs right here, and you’ll need to get your name on a wait list for any chance at snagging one of the 65 examples. Pricing is set at 2,000 € (including 21% VAT), so figure around $ 2,000. Your best bet at getting a Spirit of Sixty-Five may be once they are delivered this fall, assuming any will hit the second hand market.
